Aperture Series: NORDIC ART RISING

The aperture series is part of the Nordic Art Rising project which aims to explore boundaries (or lack of them) in relation to nature and our world through paintings. A stencil was placed over a piece of heavy oil paper, leaving only a circle of open space in the middle. Abstract marks, some static, others dynamic were painted onto the surface. Many of the marks went over the boundary imposed by the stencil until I could no longer discern what the painting looked like until I took off the stencil. Although I began with a "controlled space", the outcome was uncontrolled and surprising.
